Sports Law in the New Millennium

"Ethical Issues in Sports Law"

(1.0 hours Ethics)

Featuring: Professor Walter T. Champion, Jr.
and San Francisco sports attorney Steve Baker

This lively program address the core ethical issues confronting practitioners in the Sports Law field, focusing on "Attorneys Qua Agents: An Ethical Conundrum." Because the field is not yet truly defined or developed, an attorney is subject to more rules and regulations under the Code of Professional Responsibility than a non-attorney agent. This is true even though the attorney qua agent usually deals in matters that are more agent-oriented than legal-oriented. Is it nobler, to act as an attorney qua agent and risk onerous sanctions, or merely to be an ordinary Joe (or Jane) qua agent and, thus, avoid a sea of trouble.

Other topics include:

  • Multiple-player representation
  • Trust account issues
  • NCAA recruiting guidelines and more
